Today

Heia! How have you been? I´ve been running around these couple of days, between jobs, friends and home and my whole body hurts as though I´d been working with my back! Besides buying groceries and taking Sam out once out of three times, I haven´t done that much, but working as an interpreter sure takes its toll on me. After a 9 hours´ day, I usually fall half-dead on the couch and watch Hbo with V. (we´re on Brotherhood now and we love it!)

Today was not as busy however, so I managed to squeeze in a long awaited coffee with a friend of mine and Sam. We sat outside with our necks stretched towards the sun (while Sam was hiding under the bench) and I almost had a heat stroke, I swear! But it felt amazing, after all these cold days, when winter seemed to be never-ending, you need a bit of sun to feel alive again!

A night out in Bucharest

Since we´re on a holiday in Bucharest for some days now, we decided to invite my family out for a better meal. Choosing a restaurant would normally sound like a nice and simple task, but proved to be a mine field this time. Not this one, not that other one, not in the city centre, ´cause the buildings are crumbling down, not traditional food, ´cause it´s not properly cooked, but not Italian, either, ´cause you don´t go to town to eat spaghetti, you get the point… The whole thing turned into a quarrel and I and my father no longer speak for the moment. Democracy was never the strong point in our family.

1st of May

Yesterday we had a day off and had planned in advance to meet with our friends Kristin and Jack and their kids for a stroll in the Ekeberg Sculpture Park. I invited them over to our apartment first and served them freshly baked ham and cheese horns, coffee and juice. After playing with Sam and Beo, the kids were excited to go outside and walk for a bit. The park is just 15 minutes away from our place, but it´s like entering a whole different world nevertheless. An enchanted one. IMG_2884 Continue reading

Weekend glimpses

This weekend was great. We partied hard on Friday, slept in on Saturday, dragged ourselves from couch to bed and back and had a lovely beef steak, wine and cheese for dinner. Sunday was brunch at our friends´ and seeing my father off to his plane. We then had a weissbier in a beer garden (Sam was with us, of course!) and binge-watched The Wire until we fell asleep on the couch. 11070350_10152793220396711_357810315_o

A night out at Tøyen Bodega

Yesterday we were supposed to entertain some friends, but I got called away for work and then, as a last minute thing, they cancelled. I didn´t feel like cooking anymore, especially since I´d caught a cold in the meantime, so I suggested we try our local tapas place instead. 😉

Weekend

Although we´re celebrating orthodox Easter this weekend, the Norwegian Easter break is over and our friends are back from Nice. So we got together over dinner and wine at our place to start the weekend right. Sammy was very happy to see them both and was all over the place with joy! 😉 And so were we! They came with stories of the Mediterranean, of 20 degrees in the shade and of antique markets. We have to go there together!

A gettaway to Cristina´s cabin

I wrote about feeling a bit lonely since almost everybody was gone this Easter break and the city was empty of people. As a response to that, a fellow countryman whom I´d only met a couple of times, but who was on my list of fb friends, invited us over to her cabin! Can you imagine such an act of generosity? 🙂 And we said yes, although my man was so anxious after having watched so many horror movies in his life that he had to check her fb page and see what she was up to! Haha! 😉 Luckily it was all ikebana and benign stuff. 😉 haha! IMG_2205 Continue reading

Dinner Party

We´ve had a couple of tough weeks, a friend of ours passed away and it´s been a hard reminder that you can never take things for granted in life. On top of that we´ve been down with a flu and working the whole time, too. For two weeks now I´ve barely had any taste and smell, not to mention my runny eyes and nose. So what  better way to celebrate a partial come back than inviting a couple of good friends for dinner?

New Year´s Eve party

Happy New Year! We started ours with a terrible head-ache and nausea, so we slept most of it away.  Today, however, was more productive. 😉 I started working and came home with fresh flowers and eucalyptus branches whereas Vuong had a day off and spent it on tidying up. We threw out the Christmas tree and packed away the decorations, prepared the left-over lobster and the duck breast and now we´re snuggling on the couch ready for “The Suits”.

But let me tell you more about our New Year´s Eve party, which was awesome, loud and long, as a real party should be. Melissa, our friend who organized it, gathered 15 cool people under her roof, made enough food to feed an army and was simply the coolest and most glamorous host I´ve ever seen! And I mean it, since I´m pretty good at hosting, myself, so I don´t go around boasting about other people. 😉 haha!

Lazy bones

Today I woke up early to finish a couple of written translations that are due today, but I seem to do anything to postpone it. In fact, procrastinating is my middle name. These days have been wonderfully lazy, so sliding back into routine is no easy task. We´ve had movie marathons and binge eating (not food, but chips and sweets), napping from 8pm to 9pm and things unheard of outside Christmas break. Yesterday however I managed to read a couple of pages, after working for a bit and then giving the house a quick shine. A friend visited with her sweet baby and we had the greatest time bonding. Unfortunately I´m quite ambivalent about children since I´ve been longing for one for so long, so I never know how I will react, I either like them too much or I just couldn´t be bothered. But Isabella was the cutest little thing and so easy to get along with, I was sold!
