Funny How Things Turn out in Life

I’m sorry for my long absence, these days I call it a good one if I get to shower, there’s Madeleine and then there’s everything else. So four months have passed since I last wrote a couple of words and believe me, it’s a wonder I’m writing this entry now. 😉 (If it isn’t dinner, it’s walking Sam, or she wakes up on account of separation anxiety or I’m simply dead and waiting to be buried ;-))

You see, having yearned for a child for all my life, when it finally happened, I should have been in 7th heaven, but the truth is corona monopolized our lives and on top of that I had no idea raising a child would be this hard. Some days I feel I’m just starting to keep afloat, most days I don’t.

But the happiness is real. You do get to wake up to (and in our case with) a funny little creature so happy it’s out of line when the clock shows only 5:30, then you start singing and clapping your hands the minute you’ve put on your socks and from there it can only get better. She gets her milk and I brew my coffee while checking the infection rate in Oslo- haha.

As I was telling you everything is about Madeleine these days. Although she started kindergarten on the 1st of March, it feels like for the better part of the time she’s either been sick or her group/the kindergarten have been closed. So I work if I get the chance and I’m happy if I get to meet up in person, because seeing people is what keeps me sane.

We’ve been cheering for spring for a month now and now she’s there and then she isn’t. How about where you live? Do you get to at least be outside, with all these restrictions? We have, even when it’s been too cold to enjoy it, we’ve bought a coffee and pushed the stroller and tried to keep our chin up.

The vaccination is slow or maybe I’m just too impatient and so we don’t dare to make any plans, either, not even for a weekend a couple of hours away where there’s more life than here. Up until now it was sort of a conscious decision not to go anywhere, but now I feel I’d give my right arm to get a taste of normality just for a day or so.

Otherwise, we’re good. There’s almost nothing left of my life before children and I miss it terribly, but there’s no time to mourn and her being so sweet definitely helps.

I wish you a happy spring, wherever you are!

xxx, Alina

Too much on my plate

You know the feeling when the alarm rings and you can’t even budge? This is how my mornings have been lately- my body stiff with exhaustion, my limbs aching and my head throbbing with pain. It’s your own fault, I sometimes tell myself, but then it isn’t really, it’s just how this line of work is, either too much or too little to do. A lawyer colleague of mine put it well when I asked him the casual “How’s it going?” and he replied “It’s going to hell, all right”.  Haha!

Spring in Bucharest

Good old Bucharest! I hadn’t been home since October, I was planning a trip in February, but then a trial came up and I postponed it, just to get the flue and succumb to it for 3 whole weeks. In the meantime both Diana and my brother got the chicken pox and so in the end I was lucky to stay away, ’cause I can’t remember having had it as a child. In the end we decided to go together for the Protestant Easter, since it’s a bank holiday and we both had some time off.

Amsterdam

In December, back when I was planning this short getaway to Amsterdam, traveling mid-March seemed like a really good idea. I mean we were drinking fizzy drinks in the sun in Oslo this time last year, so who would have thought Europe would be swept by such a wave of cold temperatures? Not me. That being said, I’ve never been so freezing cold as I’ve been this past few days in my entire life, walking around purposeless, through the hoards of tourists, trying to keep my spirits up when all I wanted to do was stay inside our cosy airbnb and drink mulled wine.  Continue reading

Long absence

There’s something wrong with my WordPress (or my Mac) and I have 0 technical skills, so I’m trying from my phone. My long absence is due to a long sick period- the flue followed by throat infection and a general indisposition- as well as a “fuck the world” attitude on account of this 5 months’ winter! I’m not kidding you! 5 months and it’s not yet over! 😫🙈 Apparently this weekend is getting cold again, but I don’t care, since I’m escaping to Amsterdam and then Romania for the Protestant Easter. And maybe NY or Fuerteventura in May!

Spring wear

I’m ready for spring! It comes as no surprise that I’m not a fan of winter- dark, cold and yucky, sometimes all three in one bite. I long for brighter days and fewer clothes on my back. Everything itches, from wool to merino and cashmere, it’s like my skin has had it with all this covering it up in layers!Skjermbilde 2017-01-24 09.36.50.png
