Rainy Bergen

One of the good things about being a freelancer, besides taking a nap and baking cupcakes at noon once in a blue moon, is that I get to travel to places I haven´t been before or, even better, places I love already! ❤IMG_8073.jpg Continue reading

Conference, dog-sitting and such

_MG_7824

How are you? I´ve had a productive start on this week, attended a two-days conference on HIV and made a new friend, too. (And a stalker, for that matter.) A couple of colleagues interpreted into English and so I spent both days listening to them and felt my chest raise with pride! Wow, the things we can do, it´s amazing! I won´t pretend to be at the same level as they are, I´m relatively new at this job and irrespective of my endeavour to be noticed, there aren´t as many conferences in Romanian! 😉 Not in Norway, at least. 😉 Continue reading

Foraging for wild mushrooms

IMG_7408

Yesterday´s trip to the woods worked wonders for a shaky psyche and if you don´t already do it regularly, I sure recommend it! I had an admission exam for interpreting studies and I couldn´t say how it went. I was so frustrated at the fact that I couldn´t take notes and that they went along with a stupid newspaper article instead of a subject from real life, I didn´t know what to do with myself! Garlic buns

Hi again! Yesterday we had the very Norwegian “dugnad” – community (somewhat) voluntary work. For the record I can´t stand anything that reminds me of communism, but it was about time I showed up since I had only participated once before in 4 years and people tend to notice. 😉 I took Sam with me and we rolled up our sleeves and did some gardening work in the back yard. We were a handful of people and in less than an hour I was done with my chores, so I could just drink some coffee and eat some soup to warm myself up. Throughout the whole seanse Sam was ecstatic, playing with some party flags, a football, then laying in the pile of leaves and sniffing everybody as soon as they arrived.

A lovely fall day

Yesterday I was a bit under the weather, feeling lazy and lacking energy. I´d already decided it was about time to take Sammy for a walk in the woods and so I sticked to it, although I got a couple of “better” offers from friends- coffee in the city, for the record. 😉 But as a mother you need to put your baby ahead of yourself and so at 11 o´clock we were already on our way to Frognerseteren for the first time this fall. IMG_7199 Continue reading

Apple jam

Fall is here, I watch it from my window, sneaking in, every day more present than the day before. I bought some new socks to match my outfits, I´m taking my shoes to the shoemaker for new soles, looking for a good sweater and for rubber boots, too. On sunny days I´m picking branches of white berries to decorate the house and apples from the neighbourhood trees to make jam out of. IMG_7144

Nodee

If you’re in Oslo during summer, you have to dine at Nodee! They have a lovely terrace, amazing Asian food and heating lamps, too! We took my mother and aunt there a couple of weeks ago to celebrate their getaway from work, a demanding grandchild and duties in general. And they loved it to bits!

Tourist for a weekend

Missed me yet? 😉 I have a good excuse for staying away: mom and auntie visited for 5 days last week, so I was busy busy. Between work, sightseeing and eating out, I had no time left on my hands, not even to draw my breath, let alone blog. 😉 But let me tell you about the fun we had together!

On Thursday the weather was frightful and I had to work (I was actually a bit glad I didn´t have to pretend not minding the rain!), so they did some sightseeing on their own and came home wet and cold. In the evening my mom felt unwell (she was tired and had eaten some mussel soup that didn´t agree with her), so I took auntie and Sam out for a walk to the Opera house and we enjoyed the stormy sky with a glass of champagne in our hand.

Perfect Friday

Yesterday my friend Cristina came over for some girl talk, Prosecco and pumpkin soup. We sat on the couch for ages, although the sun was up and outside it was Indian summer. We were just too lazy and couldn´t be bothered. So when I suggested an evening walk, V and Sam joined us to Sørenga and back. It was such a pretty evening- the sun was just setting, the air was still warm and people had started leaving, abandoning the beach in a magic mist of purple. IMG_6688 Continue reading

Weekend treat

How have you been and what´s your weekend been like? 😉 We had amazing weather and spent our Saturday mostly outside with a glass of Prosecco in our hand, barbecuing, picking raspberries and having fun. The day started by giving Sam a much needed bath, ´cause he´s been dipping in all the ponds and bays and stank like a dog pound. I then took him for a long walk in the sun to dry and we ended up in Kaffebrenneriet in Grønland, in a former fire department quarters, where they have a pretty garden and amazing coffee to savour.
