Apricot Galette

For me, summer equals baking. I usually have a long holiday- there’s little to do in my branch when the courthouse is closed and although “crime never sleeps”, I can’t be bothered to take on just any assignments only to get out of the house. So I walk Sammy, I go to the beach, I read, I practice driving, I go to yoga and I bake. 😉

Urban Sunday

IMG_7876It took me many years to stop sighing for a bigger, more exciting city, like Paris, London and Berlin, and instead enjoy the cosy little Oslo we have. 😉 Yes, it´s a bit provincial, no, there aren´t as many good eateries or things to do as in a metropole, but you can get to the sea and the woods in 15 minutes, we have fresh air and pretty great neighbours (we’ve lived four places and definitely prefer the “rougher” East side, people are so much nicer!).

Apple jam

Fall is here, I watch it from my window, sneaking in, every day more present than the day before. I bought some new socks to match my outfits, I´m taking my shoes to the shoemaker for new soles, looking for a good sweater and for rubber boots, too. On sunny days I´m picking branches of white berries to decorate the house and apples from the neighbourhood trees to make jam out of. IMG_7144

Vanilla ice-cream with sour cherries

I have this thing for homemade ice-cream. As with most things I cherish, it reminds me of my summers at my grandparents in the country side, where from time to time my grandma would treat us to homemade vanilla ice-cream from beautiful coffee cups. When I come to think of it, I´ve been making ice-cream for years: I “accidentally” put chocolate mousse in the freezer all the time and I make smoothie with so many frozen berries it´s practically a sorbet. 😉

So the other day we picked some more sour cherries and since I didn´t have time to try my skills at a real American cherry pie, I found this recipe that sounded doable, considering we had guests in the evening. IMG_6093

Pea and thyme pesto/dinner for two

It was about time I made something yummy, lately food has been more of a necessity (due to lack of time, mainly) and, consequently, quite dull. But yesterday I was inspired by a recipe found here and since “I´m in money” (as we say in Romanian, meaning I got paid), thought I´d prepare something a bit fancier than frozen fish with rice and cucumber or frozen fish with mashed potatoes and cauliflower. (yes, frozen fish is cheap here!) 😉 So I got a juicy piece of entrecôte, ingredients for a pea and thyme pesto, sweet potatoes, as well as beer! 😉IMG_4488

Christmas presents

This year I´m making most Christmas gifts myself. I am usually a workaholic, but this time of the year business is slow and I learned to enjoy it. Therefore I´m baking and personalizing presents I bought, knitting and writing Christmas cards. Nice time to be with friends, too, if you still have any left when you decide work is not everything in life. 😉 Enjoy your advent time!
