Mornings like these, when you wake up rested and wonder what time it is, then lie awake in bed and find the pain is gone. I knew it would happen some day, the way love passes, so does hurt, but the realisation is consuming nevertheless, I can live again without guilt or remorse, I can open the windows and breathe in the fresh air without almost feeling it´s a sin to be alive. Missed me yet? 😉 I have a good excuse for staying away: mom and auntie visited for 5 days last week, so I was busy busy. Between work, sightseeing and eating out, I had no time left on my hands, not even to draw my breath, let alone blog. 😉 But let me tell you about the fun we had together!
On Thursday the weather was frightful and I had to work (I was actually a bit glad I didn´t have to pretend not minding the rain!), so they did some sightseeing on their own and came home wet and cold. In the evening my mom felt unwell (she was tired and had eaten some mussel soup that didn´t agree with her), so I took auntie and Sam out for a walk to the Opera house and we enjoyed the stormy sky with a glass of champagne in our hand.
I have this thing for homemade ice-cream. As with most things I cherish, it reminds me of my summers at my grandparents in the country side, where from time to time my grandma would treat us to homemade vanilla ice-cream from beautiful coffee cups. When I come to think of it, I´ve been making ice-cream for years: I “accidentally” put chocolate mousse in the freezer all the time and I make smoothie with so many frozen berries it´s practically a sorbet. 😉
So the other day we picked some more sour cherries and since I didn´t have time to try my skills at a real American cherry pie, I found this recipe that sounded doable, considering we had guests in the evening.
Yesterday afternoon we met with a couple of friends over a beer and some Mexican food. We´ve been regulars at Café Sara for more than 12 years now and it´s never disappointed us. The food is yummy, the prices- low and the atmosphere- perfect, whether you´re a broke student or a millionaire. It´s neither more, nor less than it pretends to be and that´s perhaps its recipe for success. A quick lunch, a late night dinner, a couple of beers in the backyard or simply a Friday evening with friends, with café Sara you´ve got it right! And you don´t see any slick stuck-up people as in the Western part of the city (we don´t care too much for them).
What have you been up to lately? For the last couple of days I haven´t had any assignments and the weather has been great, so we got to be outside most of the time (me and Sam), while V has been working his ass off to prepare for SEEK (Berlin trade show).
As I was agonizing about an invoice that the state hadn´t paid in 6 weeks instead of 3-4 and, feeling I would soon burst into a fit of rage (or worse, into tears!), I took my buddy Sam to the Botanical Garden to meet with a colleague and blow out some steam. And what do you know? The money came eventually and we got ourselves a pretty awesome day as a bonus! Picnic in the park! Another friend came after a while and we chatted, browsed through magazines, threw balls for Sam to fetch and went back and forth to the café for water, coffee and ice-cream. 😉 Continue reading
Since Monday, my strict low-carb diet is over and I´ve been trying to eat healthy and stay off the worst types of food. I even signed a monthly membership at the gym where a friend of mine goes, so I´d have to stick to our deal. I´ve already been to yoga and every single muscle of my body has been hurting ever since. 😉 I´ve made a new appointment for pilates on Monday, meanwhile, I try to stick to my abs and squats on an everyday basis.
What did change though is my desire for sugar. We went to a couple of parties and I indulged in a little bit of cake there, a pannacotta here, you know the drill. And all I think of is sugar! Grrrr! Thought I´d share a couple of pictures from Pinterest, hoping I won´t need to taste them as long as I can rest my eyes upon them, the way I sometimes do with shopping. Have you tried? Go to netaporter, fill your basket with the sassiest babies and don´t proceed to the counter. Just know that they´re a click away. 😉 Have a lovely Saturday! xxx. Alina
