Walnuts and donuts

IMG_7771This weekend we had fabulous weather and so we took Sammy to the woods both days. The forrest is so pretty in its autumn attire, it looks like a queen all dolled-up for a party. Lots of pictures on my Romanian blog, if you want to take a look!

Yesterday I invited a couple of friends over for what seems to be growing into a tradition- Sunday coffee and cake at the Trans. 😉 I had big plans for this weekend´s treat, given that I ´d already made a huge lasagna form (and resisted the urge to share with our next-door neighbours, so we´ve been eating that for lunch and dinner since Friday!), I only needed to make something sweet and it could be elaborate, too. Easier said than done, because after some hours in the woods, with a clear head, but heavy feet, baking is the last thing you feel like doing. :-/

Apple muffins and kids

IMG_7231

How are you doing? These days I´m trying to stay away from sweets and gluten and instead I end up baking lots and eating it, too. Last night I had two lovely ladies over for gossip and some tea and the little lady practically rearranged the house, she was so thrilled about all the stuff we have! 😉 haha! So we made apple muffins while Isabella was carrying around with Sam and Beo and the decoration stick she found, my dried hydrangeas (sigh!) and all the small vases “lying around” in the hall. 😉

How to turn a bad day good ;-)

It´s been a full week and a pretty bad one and so I couldn´t tell you how thrilled I am the weekend is here! I´m having difficulties handling the injustices in my line of work these days without getting so angry that my whole body contracts into one bundle of muscles. So a couple of days ago my foot started aching without having done anything in particular. And today I had one hell of a headache, it felt like my eyes were going out of my orbits. Not to mention that made me quite unpleasant towards my colleagues, so I decided I should get a massage and a bottle of wine, to calm myself down, before I get a heart attack!

90 minutes of thai massage, a nice walk in the sun with Sammy, a glass of wine, two Valeriana pills and a small bag of macarons later, I feel much better! In the mean time I bought a medical dictionary, had a meaningless conversation with a horrible little lady who tried to work her superiority on me on account of her position and her age (that never turns old!) and now I´m about to start making dinner, feeling more zen than in ages. Apple jam

Fall is here, I watch it from my window, sneaking in, every day more present than the day before. I bought some new socks to match my outfits, I´m taking my shoes to the shoemaker for new soles, looking for a good sweater and for rubber boots, too. On sunny days I´m picking branches of white berries to decorate the house and apples from the neighbourhood trees to make jam out of. IMG_7144

Saturday thoughts

This week has been a good one, both professionally and weather-wise. Sommer returned for a couple of days and brought a smile upon everybody´s face and a strong desire to live. We went to the Botanical Garden, had lunch and coffee breaks outdoors and a picnic in the park. Unfortunately V was stuck by a needle, so we ended up at the Emergency Room yesterday evening, to take a blood test. I tried to comfort him while he had a rant about drug addicts and how they ruin a perfectly good park where lots of children play all the time. The rest is not suitable for a public blog. We were advised not to dramatise the situation, since only an infinitesimal amount of people end up being infected. But it´s a horrible situation to be in none the less. Continue reading

Pumpkin soup

I bought a big slice of pumpkin the other day and thought I´d make a pumpkin soup out of it for a chilli evening. But summer has returned, although only for a couple of weeks, so no chilly evenings, yet. Nothing a bottle of Prosecco can´t fix, however, the soup went fine along with the bubbles. I didn´t have all the ingredients listed below in the house, so my soup was a “cheaper” version than the one presented here. 😉 I hope you´ll give it a try none the less! 😉

Dark chocolate cake with raspberries

I might have blogged about it before, but it´s worth repeating since we´re talking of my all time favourite cake! 😉 It´s a dark, melting-on-your-tongue type of cake that works wonders after dinner and keeps well in the fridge for a week or so.

Baked Salmon à la Vietnamienne

Saturday we had guests and V was the chef. I got away with “cleaning the house” (which was more like tidying up, really), as well as making my now famous vanilla ice-cream. 😉 We were 7 and the fish was devoured in no time. In the mean time, Sam was the main attraction and he got so much love that it´ll hopefully last him for the entire week. 😉IMG_6103 Continue reading

Sour cherry cake

I´ve already shared this recipe with you on my Romanian blog, but since not all of you read Romanian and not all of you follow it, I thought I should post it here, too. 😉

A couple of days ago I picked a bowl of sour cherries straight from the tree and I felt like baking a cake, the type of summer cake that my childhood was filled of.

Brownie cookies

For a week or so, I´ve been longing for something sweet and homemade, but the inspiration to bake didn´t announce itself until yesterday. 😉 I´ve been either busy, tired, lazy or I simply couldn´t be bothered with shining the kitchen, in order to start baking.  It so happens that Matpaabordet has many easy-to-make recipes and since I haven´t been disappointed yet, I thought I´d try these cookies. Husband and neighbours applauded my effort and quality checked the result. 😉
