Madeleines

How are you, my darlings? I feel nobody’s reading blogs anymore, at least nobody seems to be interested in anything I have to say, or am I mistanken? Anyways, I like to write, so I’ll keep on writing regardless of readers. It’s mainly for therapeutic reasons, to keep me from talking to myself- haha! 😉

I’m living my best life for the time being, going to photography courses twice a week, working either too much or too little and in between sitting with a beer or a glass of wine in cafés and writing short stories. I think I might just have cracked the code, writing comes easier and so do the stories that want to be put down on paper. (No, I don’t write them down with a pen, I’m not that old-fashioned!)

American pancakes

How y’all doing? I´ve had a pretty intense week, worked hard enough, received the wood we´d ordered (and helped carrying it with my frail hands and all!), learned how to do the VAT on my own, baked a cake and I´m still alive! 😉 In between I devoured Christmas magazines, fell asleep watching River and messed up a couple of dates- a trial I thought to be this week turned out is due in January! :-/ Haha! Still, good it wasn´t the other way around..

I love Saturdays, they usually start in bed with coffee and Instagram, then I make some breakfast, if I can be bothered, not a morning person at all, listening to Madeleine Peyroux or Daniela Andrade, to get me in the mood. Today was one of those lucky breakfast days, I´d been fancying some American pancakes for ages now! So easy to make, I don´t know what kept me so long from trying! Do give them a chance! 😉

Baked Salmon à la Vietnamienne

Saturday we had guests and V was the chef. I got away with “cleaning the house” (which was more like tidying up, really), as well as making my now famous vanilla ice-cream. 😉 We were 7 and the fish was devoured in no time. In the mean time, Sam was the main attraction and he got so much love that it´ll hopefully last him for the entire week. 😉IMG_6103 Continue reading

Apfel strudel

I felt inspired by Laura and her rhubarb dessert and so I wanted to make something sweet yesterday, but since I´m more of a pastry person, I found this recipe for what fru timian promised to be the world´s best rhubarb pie! Tough luck, the Turks by the corner had no knowledge of rhubarb and so I had to change my plans entirely. Apfel strudel, I thought!

Pea and thyme pesto/dinner for two

It was about time I made something yummy, lately food has been more of a necessity (due to lack of time, mainly) and, consequently, quite dull. But yesterday I was inspired by a recipe found here and since “I´m in money” (as we say in Romanian, meaning I got paid), thought I´d prepare something a bit fancier than frozen fish with rice and cucumber or frozen fish with mashed potatoes and cauliflower. (yes, frozen fish is cheap here!) 😉 So I got a juicy piece of entrecôte, ingredients for a pea and thyme pesto, sweet potatoes, as well as beer! 😉IMG_4488

Espresso biscotti

This is one of my holiday speciality, I usually bake them for Christmas and every once in a while for Easter. I stumbled upon the recipe in a Danish food and lifestyle magazine- Mad og bolig – some years ago, and I´ve been making them ever since. It´s like it usually is with biscotti, you either love them, or you can´t get what the fuss is about. My family and some of my Romanian friends find them hard to chew, luckily many other friends usually lick their fingers. 😉 My husband´s ex-boss used to like them so much she “ordered” them one December as nibbling snacks for the shop´s employees.
