Yesterday I was in a strange mood, it was as if my whole body was mourning the carefree summer days and getting ready for a new phase- call it autumn, call it work, or just routine. Whatever you choose to name it, I felt a big sense of loss and very little pleasure in anticipating what would come. To cheer myself up and because I had invited friends over for coffee, I decided to make some ciabatta to go with my wonderful home made apple jam. And it was so easy and delicious I thought I should share it with you! 😉

The Best Brownies Ever
The Passing into the New Year
This New Year´s Eve was my personal low as far as I can remember and yet it turned out pretty cosy in the end. After a tearful day with lots of Amy Winehouse “Love is a Losing Game” and the feeling that 2016 would never come and I´d die the loneliest person on the planet, after drinking Prosecco as soon as I got home (13:30) and wailing in the bedroom for a couple of hours, I decided I should take a shower, put on my face, bake a cake and take a cab to my cousin´s, ´cause by that time Sam was already terrified by fireworks and I barely managed to drag him after me 10 feet.

Christmas
It´s time for a light entry, I´m starting to get fed-up of my moody blues, so I can only imagine how it is for you. 😉
I managed to buy a couple of Christmas presents at last and ate some of them already. Oops! I´ll be sure to replace them on Monday, though- haha! This year it´s back to basics, food and culture. It´s practically impossible to gift anything in Norway, people have everything and we´re growing so particular that we sometimes get offended by the wrong present. (at least I do 😉 ) haha! Crazy!
To myself I have a brand new me as a gift, ribbon-wrapped and cherry on top- haha!

Chocolate cake with meringue top
This cake is the bomb! Reading the Norwegian recipe on Mat på bordet made me so curious, I just had to try it myself! I mean I love meringue and dark chocolate, but a combination of the two?! Divine! 😉

Walnuts and donuts
This weekend we had fabulous weather and so we took Sammy to the woods both days. The forrest is so pretty in its autumn attire, it looks like a queen all dolled-up for a party. Lots of pictures on my Romanian blog, if you want to take a look!
Yesterday I invited a couple of friends over for what seems to be growing into a tradition- Sunday coffee and cake at the Trans. 😉 I had big plans for this weekend´s treat, given that I ´d already made a huge lasagna form (and resisted the urge to share with our next-door neighbours, so we´ve been eating that for lunch and dinner since Friday!), I only needed to make something sweet and it could be elaborate, too. Easier said than done, because after some hours in the woods, with a clear head, but heavy feet, baking is the last thing you feel like doing.

Garlic buns
Hi again! Yesterday we had the very Norwegian “dugnad” – community (somewhat) voluntary work. For the record I can´t stand anything that reminds me of communism, but it was about time I showed up since I had only participated once before in 4 years and people tend to notice. 😉 I took Sam with me and we rolled up our sleeves and did some gardening work in the back yard. We were a handful of people and in less than an hour I was done with my chores, so I could just drink some coffee and eat some soup to warm myself up. Throughout the whole seanse Sam was ecstatic, playing with some party flags, a football, then laying in the pile of leaves and sniffing everybody as soon as they arrived.
Apple muffins and kids
How are you doing? These days I´m trying to stay away from sweets and gluten and instead I end up baking lots and eating it, too. Last night I had two lovely ladies over for gossip and some tea and the little lady practically rearranged the house, she was so thrilled about all the stuff we have! 😉 haha! So we made apple muffins while Isabella was carrying around with Sam and Beo and the decoration stick she found, my dried hydrangeas (sigh!) and all the small vases “lying around” in the hall. 😉
Dark chocolate cake with raspberries
I might have blogged about it before, but it´s worth repeating since we´re talking of my all time favourite cake! 😉 It´s a dark, melting-on-your-tongue type of cake that works wonders after dinner and keeps well in the fridge for a week or so.
Crappy weather and lots of baking
Summertime. Except we´re in Norway. We´ve had a couple of nice days lately, but I´ve either been working or agonising on my cheek muscles problem. (I can barely open my mouth, which makes eating very unsatisfying. And no, it´s not my wisdom tooth, I´ve had it checked.) So I´ve been baking. It´s soothing and it feeds the people. And it makes me feel useful. 😉
My brother and his wife are coming over for a week and I can´t wait to show them around and let them be a part of our regular schedule, with Sammy walks and all. Also a dear childhood friend is visiting for a couple of days from France and since we haven´t seen each other in 15-16 years, it won’t be a day too soon! 😉 Next Saturday it´s V´s birthday and we´re throwing him a party! I´ve already thought about the food, making a couple of pies, a couple of salads and a couple of cakes. Booze and bubbles are nr. 1 on the list! Take a look at those pictures here and tell me what you think! 😉
