I’ve started writing a bit, nothing amazing, just short stories I have trouble wrapping up, so that’s why you haven’t heard from me in a while now. Otherwise I’ve been walking Sam in the woods and taken lots of pictures of mushrooms, there’s an awful lot of them this year and they’re so pretty! I’ve been trying to go to a mushroom course for two weeks in a row now, but the planets don’t seem to be aligning in order for that to happen- either I need to work or they’re fully booked. Oh, well. Next year, then!
Birthday
Busy days
These last two weeks have been full of good food and visitors. Although I´m still waiting to get paid and consequently I could have eaten the case officer alive, I´ve done my best to be a good host and enjoy the company of friends and family. First my cousin came from Romania with a couple of her friends and stayed for a night and then went on an adventure in the Southern and Western Norway, climbing mountains and getting engaged (the friends, not the cousin). 😉 Continue reading
Pizzie turns 50
This whole trip to Copenhagen was a spontaneous thing to attend Pizzie´s 50th birthday party yesterday. It was a genuine experience, like few others in my life. I have to start by stating I´m no party person, I seldom dance, I´m a bit shy when it comes to conversation with new people, I don´t drink that much and I don´t smoke, either. I enjoy sitting on a couch and find a couple of persons to chit chat with, while drinking bubbles. 😉
August
August has been awesome so far! The weather is pretty on and off and makes me long for Greek beaches and cloudless skies, but our social life has been amazing. My brother is visiting with his wife, yesterday was V´s birthday and the rest of the crew is back from holidays. Later on this month a friend is coming over with her boyfriend for a short holiday and at the end of the month- my mom and auntie will be visiting us, too.
Lunch at Vino Veritas
Yesterday I had lunch with a dear friend at Vino Veritas and I liked the place so much I decided to move Vuong´s birthday party there! 😉 It´s a local tapas restaurant, just 5 minutes from our home, they have lots of space and a lovely terrace, so we can bring Sam and invite friends with kids, too! 😉 Yey! And then we can go home for cake, if people feel like it. So I can´t wait! 😉
Crappy weather and lots of baking
Summertime. Except we´re in Norway. We´ve had a couple of nice days lately, but I´ve either been working or agonising on my cheek muscles problem. (I can barely open my mouth, which makes eating very unsatisfying. And no, it´s not my wisdom tooth, I´ve had it checked.) So I´ve been baking. It´s soothing and it feeds the people. And it makes me feel useful. 😉
My brother and his wife are coming over for a week and I can´t wait to show them around and let them be a part of our regular schedule, with Sammy walks and all. Also a dear childhood friend is visiting for a couple of days from France and since we haven´t seen each other in 15-16 years, it won’t be a day too soon! 😉 Next Saturday it´s V´s birthday and we´re throwing him a party! I´ve already thought about the food, making a couple of pies, a couple of salads and a couple of cakes. Booze and bubbles are nr. 1 on the list! Take a look at those pictures here and tell me what you think! 😉
Paris is always a good idea (part 2)
Now, I haven´t been to NY or anywhere else outside Europe for that matter, but I´m pretty sure few cities can equal Paris when it comes to celebrating one´s birthday! I turned 34 on Saturday and I had the best anniversary ever! I woke up to jazz music just outside our window (we stayed in Bastille) and my husband had been out and bought me a rose, breakfast and cake. Breakfast in bed with Paris at my feet, that´s pretty much of a gift itself!
We were supposed to go to Clignancourt for the flea market, but the lazy morning and the prospects of a lunch date with some friends made the time too short. I didn´t despair though, there´re lots of markets in Paris and as it turned out, there was one just outside our apartment. 😉 Lots of goodies- antiques, industrial lamps, vintage garments, you name it! Although not exactly cheap, the prices were generally better than in shops, at least in Norway. 😉 We bought an antique bronze statue, with marble and ivory, it´s a beauty!
Birthday picnic in the woods
Yesterday was great. The sun was shining yet again and our friend, Hege, celebrated her birthday with a picnic trip in the woods. We took the subway and met the crew at Frognerseteren, a venerable restaurant on the top of the hill. After enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine in the sun, we started walking towards Songsvann, our final destination for the picnic. We were 6 adults, a child and a dog. Sammy was happy to explore the surroundings, he jumped up and down, drinking water from small creeks, engaging us in his silly schemes and sniffing every dog we couldn´t prevent him from meeting.;-) On the way I picked some blueberries and served them to the others from Sam´s drinking cup. 😉 They were sweet and tasted like summer. When we finally arrived to a table in a sun, everybody started unpacking the goodies. Food never tasted that good, I tell you!;-) We had bean salad, cheese and bacon pie, cheese and fig jam, chocolate cake, banana bread, chips and drops. Yummy! After filling our tummies, we tok the subway back to the city. We were tired and our feet had started aching when we realized we´d been outside for 6 hours! Now that´s what I call a Sunday trip!
Sunday treats
After a boring morning of billing and accountancy, we´re now off to the city to treat ourselves to some dim sum and a movie. Meanwhile I was checking Pintrest to get some inspiration for my birthday, which I´m celebrating with a cocktail party in 3 weeks´ time.;-) Here are some suggestions.
Birthday girl
Yesterday was my birthday and I felt grand. Ever since I was a little girl, birthday has been the best day of the year, the one day I could get away with almost anything and on top of it receive gifts, too. Yesterday was no exception. Although I had to work long hours, it was one of those perfect days- sunny, managed to keep all my appointments (meaning that train, subway and taxi decided to work with me instead of against me), my husband booked us a table at Baltazar, a fancy Italian restaurant and I got some lovely gifts. If in Oslo, check out Baltazar! Cooking art to perfection. And the best gift from Paris is of course, macarons. 😉 Take a look!
