Tacos Save the Day

No, the apartment was not sold on the first round of home inspections and yesterday I was both furious and sad, mostly because nobody could realise what a great home this has been for me and see herself living here. But I snapped out of it pretty fast, relieved that V contacted the engineer and the real estate agent to correct a bunch of information regarding the bathroom and now we’re having a new “open house” again on Sunday, meaning I’ll be living on display until then.

Today was the 17 of May, Norway’s national day and we didn’t even get out of the house. And I loved every second of it! We did have both Prosecco, Cremant and Champagne, which implied a couple of naps on the couch watching crime. Again, how much better can it get? Both of us were tired, the weather was crappy and we had nowhere to be and so staying at home with good food and some slightly burned meringues (I made a batch yesterday, while angry about the lack of a bidding round) felt like the perfect thing to do.

I’ll leave you a lovely recipe I found on the American site. I prepared it yesterday (with a couple of changes and it was yummy!

Sweet freelance life

Second Easter day was spent “en famille”. My father came from Romania yesterday and we had a nice breakfast with lots of lovely coffee and cozonac, our traditional holiday cake. I was lucky not to have anything on my agenda and had sort of decided not to work, but when nobody required my services, I was even happier I didn´t have to turn anybody down.

It was a fresh and sunny day and I had a long walk with Sam. I let him run free and chase the geese by the lake, then we went all the way to the marina to enjoy the view. Later on I had coffee with a friend and her 2 months daughter, in our neighborhood coffeeshop. 😉 On my way home again I picked up some fresh tulips and a bottle of wine. V is making shrimps with leeks in a tomato sauce, served with white rice for dinner, then we´re out to have a beer with a friend of ours.

My office for today

Crazy cold out there. Went to work, but nobody showed up, so I was sent home. Instead, I paid two of my English-speaking colleagues a visit and listened to them interpret an ever so boring trial about some corporate corruption scandal of some sort. They were amazing, but the topic was horrendous, so I went home after all. I had to light the fire and since we only have a stove in the kitchen, I moved my whole “office” there. Thinking of spending most of my day here, then bake a Pavlova cake and make a lasagna for this evening, when 4 colleagues and friends are coming for dinner. 😉

New kitchen

It seems we might be able to do some changes around the house this summer, although we had not foreseen it, to put it like that. The kitchen is our first priority, since we spend so much time there and it has such a good vibe. The previous owner was a young lad interested in making as good a profit from selling the apartment as possible. So he chose a plain Ikea kitchen and the cheapest tiles he could come over.

We´d like to get rid of the top cupboards and build some pretty shelves instead. As tiles, we love the metro ones from Fired Earth, they have both a rustic and a decadent touch at the same time!

Getting there

I haven´t written about our apartment in a long time, mostly because I´m so frustrated about how long it takes to get in order! Grrr!

We still need a bigger wardrobe, we need somebody to dig for the original floors, plaster the walls in the living room, the bedroom and the studio, renovate the bathroom, build some extra shelves, buy some art and redo half the kitchen! It´s gonna take forever and cost a fortune! I want a marble counter top and some nice lamps, as well as shelves.
