Christmas as 4

This year we’re celebrating Christmas the 4 of us: me and F, Madde and Sam. ❤ I’m trying to find the Christmas tree foot stored somewhere in the attic, ’cause, guess what: We’re getting a tree! I’m so excited I could jump for joy, had I not been so sleep deprived that.. But that’s another story.

Since we moved into a new apartment in February, we’ve been negotiating a new style together- I have things to fill a whole house, but it’s stuff I bought on my own or in “my previous life”, so we’re trying to find something that both can live with. 😉 Which is why we’re not gifting each other anything this Christmas, instead we’re getting this lovely lamp from &tradition. It’s called Copenhagen, one of my favorite cities. We wanted to make sure it would come on time for the holidays and because I dared to ask, we were able to buy the one on exhibited in the store with a big discount. Yay!

My George Nelson bubble lamp is not double insulated and so we have to find another pendant for our living room table. And who would have thought it would be such a hard task? I’d been looking at Louis Poulsens PH lamp, but it has the same shortcoming, so we’ll have to search some more. Do you have any advice?

I had to get a new Mac since my old one ended on the floor with a cup of coffee aboard and I need to buy an Apple Card for my memory card, or else I can’t seem to transfer pictures from my camera. And you know me, these things take a lifetime to get sorted, which is why I only have pictures from my mobile. But I’ll leave you a cute picture of my two babies who seem to make friends with each day that passes.

I hope you have a lovely holiday and drop me a line if you feel like it.

xxx, Alina

Gift guide 2017

Yippi yey, we’re a month away from Christmas! I can’t wait for the days off, the snow, cocoa in bed, evenings by the fire (unfortunately we don’t have a fireplace anymore, but friends of us do), reading something soothing (after many years when December meant exams, I like unwinding with Agatha Christie or British crime), walking the bear, making cookies and exchanging gifts. I put together a little list with what would make me happy to give and receive, if only the word budget hadn’t been invented and money was no issue.

I love me a piece of pottery and this fancy plate by Anette Krogstad is right up my alley. You can purchase it at Norway design. Continue reading

Getting there

Hi, how are you all doing? I’m pretty well. Except for the fact that I’m tired and short-tempered most of the time (winter and depression combined), it feels I haven’t been this well in years. Had I no been approaching the moment when I have to sell the apartment and all the effort this implies, I’d be on top of the world. 😉 A huge electrician bill, a new dishwasher and a cooking top, painting the bedroom and the living-room are only a couple of examples on things that have to be in place before the apartment can be put on the market. In addition to that, I’m busting my ass off working to pay the remaining debt to the fiscal authorities when all I can do is dream about how our new apartment will look like and how I can’t wait to decorate it. Dark, dreamy colours and quality furniture will hopefully characterise this new part of my life, since there will be less need to fill empty rooms and consequently we can take the time to find the right stuff.skjermbilde-2017-02-21-08-42-40 Continue reading

La Factory Provence

A couple of months ago I was the lucky winner of a 2000 DKK voucher from La Factory Provence through a giveaway hosted by my fellow blogger from Denmark, Nanna. I couldn´t believe it when I saw the mail, I hardly ever win anything and besides this was a Danish store, so I immediately thought about the cost of transport, customs and so on. It´s an online store that focuses on industrial and vintage furniture, right up our alley! I sat down with V one evening and we picked what appealed to us most (and what we have most of in this house, too!)- chairs! Surprised? haha! 😉

Marianne was wonderful, she helped me with the shipping, answered all my questions and yesterday I got the second chair, too! Somehow they´d been separated on their way and I didn´t receive them together. So happy with them! Take a look!

Autumn wish list

With September comes autumn and so I envision myself in a cosy couch with a lovely woolen plaid and a cup of cocoa. Since we threw away our old sofa a two seats couch is now doing the job and we´re not thrilled with it. It´s too small to sit comfortably, not to mention there´s no room for napping.  However, I don´t despair. I´ve set my eyes on this baby from Andreas Engesvik, I drool whenever I see it. 😉

Dream living room

I just found the perfect couch, too! I need to check with my better half, but I´ll manage to convince him if he doesn´t see things my way! This summer, things will change around here! No more half solutions accepted and a major clean-up is due! For the ones of you following me for a while you know the limited edition PH-lamp is on the top of my list, almost before the telephone invoice (haha) and now I can start saving for my dream couch, too! The Plank sofa is a cooperation between the Norwegian Knudsen/Berg/Hindenes&Myhr and the Danish dk3 and Dinesen. The latter are very famous for their incredible hard wood floors, take a look here. What do you think? I´m so excited I´m out of words!

Getting there

I haven´t written about our apartment in a long time, mostly because I´m so frustrated about how long it takes to get in order! Grrr!

We still need a bigger wardrobe, we need somebody to dig for the original floors, plaster the walls in the living room, the bedroom and the studio, renovate the bathroom, build some extra shelves, buy some art and redo half the kitchen! It´s gonna take forever and cost a fortune! I want a marble counter top and some nice lamps, as well as shelves.

Living room lamp

I´m so excited, I can barely breathe! I finally found the perfect lamp for our living room! A limited edition Louis Poulsen PH lamp in copper! Ai ai ai! I´ve never seen anything this beautiful, I swear! But I should let you see for yourselves. I´ll place an order as soon as I manage to scrape together the 1200€ it costs!

Welcome Christmas in your apartment the Danish way

You just have to love this apartment! I often read Danish magazines, I find their style more enticing than the Norwegian and the Swedish one, it´s less clean, more ethnic and more playful. And the apartments and houses over there are huge in comparison! I like the way the owner has carefully selected all the pieces of the apartment, indeed it seems a curated home. Let the Christmas begin!

Pretty things

Today I´ve been mostly at home since I´m down with a cold. I´ve been doing some accountancy, read the Sunday paper and bought some filler for my ugly walls that definitely need a makeover. The plan is to start with the hallway and we´ll do that on Saturday!<3 I´ll definitely post some pictures when done! The thing is that our house is never tidy enough to take pictures of!;-)

In the meantime I´ll show you some nice stuff I´ve come across lately!

Those Ferm Living houses are just super cute! So are the sculptural vases and the colorful candlesticks. For a Scandinavian look, hold yourself to soft colors.
