A weekend somewhere with snow and mulled wine

We´re talking about a weekend away from home now that Christmas is around the corner, besides we´re used to changing the scenery once a month and the weather has been appalling in November. I just miss the snow and the sun so much! I want a couple of days where I eat when I´m hungry, take Sammy for long walks in the woods, go for a massage or a facial at the hotel spa and maybe learn how to ski, while I´m at it. 😉

Norway is amazing in the winter, but everything is so pricy that you end up spending 1000 Euros during a weekend. Nevertheless I feel we need some boost before Christmas and our family gathering in Vienna is not before mid January, so I can´t wait that long.

So while waiting for a couple of friends to give us the green light for either Norefjell or Geilo, I´m hoping I can stay as stylish as this gal from mytheresa! 😉 Take a look!

Winter is coming to Romania

These amazing nature photographs are taken by Lucia Bujor for the Facebook group called “273 places you have to see before you leave Romania”. They picture a fairytale-like landscape in Muntele Mic, Caransebes, when trees, grass, creaks and fences are covered in rime, just before winter sets in. I don´t know about you, but as much as I love white palm trees beaches, my heart skips a beat when I see images from home. Enjoy and let next year´s trip go to Romania!

Monday Mood Board

Because it´s Monday and I got the blues. It´s just one of those days- the weekend seemed too short, I didn´t feel like waking up, the rain outside certainly doesn´t help, I can’t bear the thought of walking Sammy and I don’t feel like getting dressed. And to make things better, I spilled half of my coffee cup on the couch. (Now we really need a new couch!) So here´s what I wish my Monday was like!

1. Wish I could stay in THIS bed all day.

Traveling around Romania

We´re organizing a trip to Romania with some friends of ours since I want to show them a glimpse of my mother country and at the same time discover some more of it myself. We´re planning it in May, since it´s her birthday, but also because spring is awesome everywhere, and even more so back home. A week´s time flies fast and we want to make sure we get to see as much as possible, but still enjoy it at a nice pace. We´re hoping to get to see Bucharest, Sinaia, Brasov and Cluj-Napoca. If the latter proves to be too far, we´ll choose Sibiu instead. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Furniture I want

Lately we´ve been trying to make do with what we have and store some of our less practical (but oh so pretty!) pieces of furniture in the attic for the next apartment/house. But there´s something about a good environment that you just can´t achieve with a crappy couch. Not only is it too small for two, but you ca´t even have a nap on it!;-) (and you know how I feel about naps!) So I started looking around, mostly online and since we decided we should invest in an everlasting piece, the prices were bordering insanity.

However, the internet is not called mighty for nothing, so I found some gorgeous bits here.  Not only do they have the nicest leather couch ever made, but they also sell art, rugs and antique pieces. Take a good look at this four seats wonder called Modell ”924” and manufactured by Vatne Lenestolfabrikk in the 60s or 70s, ´cause it´s going to be ours!

Vissevasse

ViSSEVASSE is run by Dorthe Mathiesen and Karsten Noel, two big names in fashion, scenography and graphics from Denmark. Their posters envision cities og landmarks in a nordic style, simple and alluring, reminiscent of the art deco era. You can purchase these beauties online, or you can try your local interior design store. I know I will!;-)

Essential Articles in the Making

My man has finally launched his web store and I´m so proud of him, I can´t even begin to tell you! He´s been working as an accesoires designer for 3 years now and it´s a tough market in Norway. Artisan work is just starting to be appreciated here and the high cost of labor implies high prices, too. He mainly works with leather and everything he makes in hand sewn. Take a look and support a local business!

Last days

During the last days I´ve been thinking elections, revolution, patriotism and how my life would have been if Romania was a country one could go back to. As in living there. Not that I necessarily would do that, but I wish it were a viable option. I was barely able to sleep and I felt light and full of color. I felt a sense of belonging in all this story, a feeling I often miss both as a foreigner here and in my line of work. You see we, interpreters, are neutral, we don´t belong in any camps.

Etsy goodies

Today was a truly nice day. I woke up late and had all the time in the world to cuddle with my babies in bed, reading blogs, checking instagram pictures and drinking coffee. Later on, I and Sam headed for a flea market with a friend of ours, mostly as an excuse to get out of the house (since the weather is horrendous this time of the year), but also to see if we find something cool. We did find a poster, a couple of fancy jars for my annual lemon curd gifting and a glass bunny that fits right in our living room exhibition. I had to have a chocolate cake bite and Sam got a sausage since he´d rather be in the woods than around thousands of noisy people, but he got some ear rubs, so it was all good. At home we had lunch- roast beef left overs from yesterday, eggplant salad that my mother made a week ago, baked sweet potatoes and focaccia. It was all yummy and familiar and somehow it took us back to Romania for a moment or two.

Now I´m in bed again, the cat purring beside me, and I´m gathering energy for tonight´s Christmas party with the Interpreters´ Union. I don´t always do well with strangers and I´ve only met a couple of them, so I´m a bit nervous. It takes a certain kind of person to join a union and I usually find them a bit loud, to put it mildly. Anyhow, I hope it´ll be less work talk and more wine, besides I must be a bit like them, too, since I´m in!

In the meantime, I´m dreaming of nice stuff on Etsy. It seems I won´t be able to shop for a while, so I might as well do some virtual gazing. 😉

Party season

These days it’s all about Mad Men and the 60s! I simply adore Joan- her studied elegance, her hair, her hips, her bosom and her wit. I love that she´s not afraid to be a woman, the way most of us are these days. I don´t mean you have to wave your hips when walking, but you don´t need to hide in jeans all the time, either. You´re beautiful,  so why not show it?!;-)

For 6 weeks now I´ve been mainly in court and that gave me a perfect opportunity to wear my nicest dresses. Call me shallow,  I´m the first one to admit it,  but nothing saves the day like a good old fashioned dress and a nice pair of stockings. 😉 And since December is right around the corner, who cares that I´m on a shopping ban,  I can still dream of a wardrobe renewal! For those of you following my blog for a while,  it comes as no surprise that I´m overdressed for most occasions. I don´t mind it anymore, though. I think people should make more of an effort on an everyday basis. Besides it cheers me up, so why not? Here are some hot items this winter:
