This house blew me away! It´s located in a residential area in Oslo, in the “right part of the town” as they say. I like the way the beams and all the white complements the modern details like the concrete bathroom shelves. I can see myself picking apples from the garden, making an apple pie in the beautiful kitchen and then eating it in front of the fire place. Enjoy!
I´m very much into photography and graphics. I won´t pretend to know a lot about art, but that´s besides the point, as long as it awakens any sort of tremble within me, it´s art enough.
I seldom have epiphanies on account of an art work and the few times I do, the pieces are usually so over my means that I have to swallow my pride and leave. Nevertheless, I won´t ever forget Kana Otofuji´s exhibition in Bygdøy allé, 10 years ago. I had just started dating my husband and we wore broke as never before and never since, walking around purposely, happy just to be together. We entered this gallery and I was stricken with awe when seeing her pictures on aluminum. They presented me with such an ethereal beauty I was just blown away. I remember having thought that if I had the money, I wouldn´t have hesitated, even though it would have been the equivalent of three months´rent. I´m still waiting to “grow up” so I can afford a couple of her paintings.
Yesterday was my birthday and I felt grand. Ever since I was a little girl, birthday has been the best day of the year, the one day I could get away with almost anything and on top of it receive gifts, too. Yesterday was no exception. Although I had to work long hours, it was one of those perfect days- sunny, managed to keep all my appointments (meaning that train, subway and taxi decided to work with me instead of against me), my husband booked us a table at Baltazar, a fancy Italian restaurant and I got some lovely gifts. If in Oslo, check out Baltazar! Cooking art to perfection. And the best gift from Paris is of course, macarons. 😉 Take a look!
We´re planning on moving to a house in a couple of years´ time and I´m always checking the market. I found this house today that I thought I should share with you, it´s amazing! Not too polished, so you can do a little bit of change yourself, but the frame is stunning! Check out the stoves! I could move in tomorrow!
We got the chairs! Ended up with Børge Mogensen instead of Hans Wegner, but God, they´re precious! So I feel grown-up, and it´s about time since my birthday is coming up in one week. Let me just show you first!
I´m terrible at enjoying what I have. This living in the present- art, “carpe diem” and “festina lente”, I wasn´t made for that. I´m a product of the coffee latte generation. Always running, always in a hurry. I make plans years in advance and propel myself hotheadedly into the future. If only I get my MA degree, if only we move into a bigger apartment, if only we get a dog.. Then I´ll be happy. Then things will be perfect. For the moment, they need a boost. Maybe you know the reasoning?
The bad thing about it is that I seldom sit down and just enjoy life as it is. Being a virgo I don´t have time to enjoy things, I´m always in between projects. That does not necessarily mean I´m actually doing anything about those projects, but they hinder me in getting other stuff done.
The good thing about it though is that I´m not static. I´m in a constant need for change and for improvement. And that in itself is not so bad. Or what do you reckon?
Right now I have a two years´ plan: 1. a full apartment make-over, 2. hopefully a new family member and 3. a house with a garden. Since number 2 can´t be planned as such, I pretend it´s not that important anyway and I work long hours to achieve nr 1 and 3. Anyone else feeling me?
So I started gathering and buying things for our house, things that we don´t have place for in our current apartment. You probably think it´s half crazy, my husband will agree, but to me it´s just a quicker way of getting there. I could go on and on about the need to have a Gustavian couch, a rococo mirror and an extensible couch for guests. I will show you some pictures of what dreams are made of instead.
It´s Sunday and I need a rest. We´re eating out with some friends later, but for now it´s just coffee, newspapers, good music and cuddling on the couch with Sam and Beo. It´s a sunny day and Oslo is at its best. It´s a really nice city to live in, especially in the summer. If you haven´t visited yet, you should put it on your list. I´ll make you an overview of the best places I know.
