Long time, no London

I was reading something today and realized how much I miss London. I need to make time for a short trip to the city that has it all. I need to be walking alongside millions of people, indulge in a cake by Covent Garden, shop at Notting Hill, go Asian at Wagamama and raid a couple of flea markets for jewelry and antiques. I´ve been to London four times, but I feel you need to go there twice a year in order to keep up with the city. I love its people, its coolness, its contrasts. I´d appreciate any suggestions for my coming trip. 2014 is the YEAR for trips, babies and a driving licence! Here I come!

Blue Jasmine

Cate Blanchett and the wardrobe from Blue Jasmine are to die for! The movie lines up in the same range as  pictures like I Am Love with Tilda Swinton and A Single Man with Julianne Moore. I´m definitely not the only one to be touched by the artistic sense in this story, I´m sure you´ll appreciate it just as much s vogue and forbes!

My week

This week has been much more eventful than the last several ones, but it made me so full of energy! Among the many things that happened in the past days, I attended a Buddhist funeral, applied for a loan at the bank in order to be able to redo our bathroom, went to the movies, to a dinner party and hosted a small dinner party myself.

I saw Blue Jasmine by Woody Allen with a friend who moved out of town. Such a beautiful picture, I definitely recommend it! The subject was human frailty and the pursuit of happiness, but also the incessant seek for something more, something better,  something else. And deceit. In all its forms. Including self deception. It was brilliant!

Cate Blanchett and her wardrobe were the star attraction, I swear I´d kill for every single piece of clothes she was wearing! After the movie date we resumed with a bottle of cava, chit-chatting about husbands and kids (pets on my part), everyday demands, work and colleagues and so on. About men who don´t do enough and who don´t appreciate everything we´re doing around the house. Sounds familiar?;-)

On Friday I attended a dinner party at a Danish friend of ours, we were five people and a French bulldog and had more fun than we´ve had in ages! We had prosecco and brut and regular wine and some more prosecco. And pasta Bolognese. Perfect gathering.

Yesterday I worked for a couple of hours, then I had to help out in the block´s back yard, because the Norwegian way is do-it-yourself instead of hiring somebody to save you the trouble. Mumbling my way through it, as frustrated as ever, I ran off after 40 minutes and went to the flea market with Sam. We weren´t that impressed, I only found a broad fur collar (like the ones you wear on top of a cocktail dress), but Sammy got a sausage and I had a waffle. And we had fun together since we´re best friends. 😉 It´s great having a dog, so much company and you don´t have to ring the whole telephone book to see if somebody´s free for lunch. He´s always willing to keep you company.

In the evening we had friends over for pizza and cake, they made the pizza, I made the cake. And I had to wash the floors, which is great, ´cause I don´t think I would have done it otherwise.

Today I´m having a day off from social affairs, just me, my man and the pets. We´re taking Sammy to the woods again and maybe we´ll see a movie this evening. There´s a festival in town- Film from the South and they show many independent pictures, but it´s almost impossible to find something that doesn´t run at 1 pm or at 9 o´clock pm.

Meanwhile I´m drinking loads of coffee and I´m almost dosing off in my dressing gown, happy it´s Sunday. I have a tiny bit of pumpkin in my fridge, maybe I´ll make some pumpkin pie?

Penthouse in the heart of Paris

This is the home of Jacques Leseur, a former art director now working as a garden architect. The studio apartment is 155 m2 in Paris, with a charming garden that would make anybody green with envy. Love its simplicity and the clean choice of decoration.

It´s getting cold

Today´s outfit is from Max Mara, one of my all time favorite brands. I love their clean cut elegance, the quality of their fabrics and the luxurious feeling of wearing a truly feminine piece of art. As a student i Bucharest I often walked past their shop in Calea Victoriei, but I never dared enter, it was way out of my price range. As a young woman, I´m building a small Max Mara wardrobe, it takes time, but the pieces are exquisite. And such a joy wearing them! This is what I would wear if money were no issue.

Oslo house

What a charming house! Only half the house is for sale, but I wouldn´t mind ending up here! Tåsen Hageby is a residential area in Oslo where usually people from the academia find a refuge. It´s close enough to the city and just a stone cast away from the woods. You´ll find cute wooden villas with apple gardens and the whole picture. Love it!

Apartment in Oslo

Frogner is one of the most beautiful and fashionable boroughs in Oslo. It´s the place where elder ladies wear silk scarves and manicure and where elderly gentlemen have an impeccable posture and nice camel hair coats. I loved Frogner from the minute I saw it. For me it has some Paris in it, without being able to define what exactly. People say it´s not necessarily a nice place to live because of the slightly arrogant attitude some of its posh residents have, but I love the atmosphere, the lack of heavy traffic and the architecture. I´d probably never get my east-side husband to move in there, but I can dream of it, can´t I?  I found this apartment that has the right frame for a high-end living, the down side is that it costs as much as an entire house elsewhere. It has spacious rooms with lots of light, a killer terrace and a walk-in closet! Good bye clutter! Take a look!

Jewelry

I´m not a jewelry person. I have a couple of rings and a few bracelets, a string of pearls and a couple of modern necklaces which I almost never wear. From time to time, though, I feel that jewelry is the one statement piece that can lift a whole outfit.

Marion Vidal! I loved her colorful, eclectic jewels from the first time I saw them in a boutique in Bucharest! I can´t refrain myself from saying that the sales persons in that wanna be high end store were awful- regarding me and my man with a mixture of disdain and awe as in “how dare you come into our shop, you mortals?!” Still, I had to have the necklace- perfect round ceramic pearls, one of the “pièces de resistance” of my wardrobe.

Introducing you to her magic world of eye candy!

Villa Thea

As you know, I´m looking for a house for the near future. For now I want to know what´s out there and I realize we don´t want to do anything at all when we first find the house of our dreams. I stumbled across this lovely home, didn´t love the bathrooms, although they were ok, so I didn´t include them. Love the white walls and floors, the oven and all the charming corners of the house. Take a look and tell me what you think!

Dreaming of a little cabin of our own

I went into the woods again today with Sam and came home so happy, so tired and so relaxed! We were in the Ekeberg Woods, where they have all those new statues and art installations. I didn´t mind the statues, nor did I like them. The pond I didn´t really get, but Sam was ecstatic, he run right into it and bathed and barked and invited every other dog to play with him. So I guess it serves its point, though probably not the one intended.

Now I´m barely alive on my couch (obviously in a very bad physical shape) and dreaming of a little cottage of our own. I found this one and it could be our dream come true! I can see it all painted white on the inside, both walls and floors, I can see ourselves drinking wine outside while enjoying the sunset and Sam running happily into the woods and down to the water. What do you think? It´s in need of a serious make-over, but on the other hand it´s very affordable. And I kind of love its imperfect charm!
