Grandma’s Place

As you might remember, grandma passed away last November and I’ve been missing her ever since. It’s not that I saw her that often, but I liked to know she was always there. For the past 18 years I made plans to stay with her for a week and learn how to make green walnuts jam, biscuits and cheese pie, but I never got around to do it. She lived in the countryside, she only got a toilet 5-10 years ago, the summers were too hot and the winters too cold and so on. Excuses, excuses. And now she’s no more.

Minestrone Soup for Colder Days

Processed with VSCO with kp3 preset

I don’t know about you, but I love me some soup when the weather starts getting crisp. And since October is the month when the sun loses more and more of its power, nights are spent with a blanket and a cup of tea reading classics or binge watching British series, I thought I’d share this recipe with you folks.

Fall at Artichoke

Artichoke has been my favourite coffeeshop in Bucharest for a couple of years now. I love its Berlin-like atmosphere, its tasty coffee, its young staff and their generous approach to fucking up- a couple of sodas on the house go a long way in my book! 😉

Bucharest nostalgia

I’m home for a long weekend for my birthday with my good friend Kristin and I couldn’t have asked for a better present! We’re back in time for a couple of days, wandering around in summer dresses, sipping rosé on sidewalk cafés, venturing into all the pretty churches, eating pretzels and buying books, talking about everything that crosses our mind, laughing loudly and soaking up the sun.E24AAB7D-1433-426F-B6E5-5BCE8F59332B.JPGAnd it’s so good to be home, my body throbs with fervor, I can barely sleep, I’m that excited! Yesterday I wasn’t even hungry, we’d been walking and walking, lunch was long overdue and I’d only had a pretzel, but there was no time for food, not as long as there were so many more things left to see, then dinner came and I had something light, but I still didn’t feel like eating, I only did it because I had to.

Creativity

I´ve been in court for 4 days and I’m beat. The intensity of the case drained me of what little energy I’d manage to build up and now I’m back to square one. Lying in bed, coffee beside me, listening to the janitor mowing the lawn outside, I can’t help but think how fortunate I am to be a freelancer. I have an entire day to myself and nobody can take that away from me. I don’t have any plans today, originally I was thinking of staying in and writing a bit,  but now I decided to take my laptop with me, meet a friend for coffee and hunt for props while in town.  And then write for a couple of hours.  Continue reading

Evolving

Today I feel like writing. Not a poem or a short story, the way I often do lately, not even a text accompanying an “artistic” picture that sends me back on a trip to memory lane, I feel like writing a bit about myself and my life. Well, what do you know, you’ll probably say, isn’t it the only thing you do? 😉 Well, I read somewhere (I can’t remember where for the life of me), I read about this universal question and its universal answer- “What makes your problems bigger than anybody else’s?” “Because they’re mine!”- and what can I say,  it’s the perfect description.

Baked pepper salad

IMG_2828

These days I’m trying to find back to my roots, without spending a whole day in the kitchen. I love cooking (and eating), but I prefer something new every day, so making a ginormous pot of cabbage rolls that I have to strive eating for an entire week is probably never going to happen in my kitchen. Unless I get my parents over for Christmas, that is.  Continue reading

Apple galette

So I made this amazing galette last week, but it didn’t turn out as pretty as today, which is why I had to wait to share the recipe with you. I found it here and I only dropped the salt caramel, although I had more than a week to find the time to make it, but either I didn’t have enough butter, a clean pan or the disposition for it, ’cause it never materialized.

Black Quinoa Salad with Nectarines

How have you been, my lovelies? I’m doing great, I get so much energy from my “newly discovered” hobby (photography and styling), it’s amazing! 😉 Every other day I try to make something yum in the kitchen and as long as there’s still light outside, I rush out with a plate and snap a photo. I don’t find it exhausting as cooking relaxes me and I need a good meal to wrap up the day anyways.

Elderberry adventures

On my way to yoga yesterday morning, I couldn’t help but notice a huge elderberry tree heavy with ripe berries glistening in the sun. For the entire yoga practice I couldn’t concentrate on the breathing since my mind was drifting towards the berries all the time: Run home and grab the scissors, no, wait, you need to wash your hair and put on a pretty dress first, so the pictures don’t turn into the ones you took a couple of years ago! (link further down) Haha!
